China Airlines (CAL)

China Airlines (CAL) is Taiwan's largest airline and one of Asia's leading carriers. In recent years, they have been widely recognized for their environmental protection and sustainability initiatives, as well as their extraordinary customer service and outstanding safety record. China Airlines currently serves some 100 destinations in nearly 30 countries around the globe. From their main hub in Taiwan they connect Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania. They are also part of the SkyTeam alliance, one of the world's largest airline networks.

CAL will accept cats, dogs, and birds in the cargo hold of their aircraft only. Pets and carriers are not considered part of your baggage allowance and will be charged excess baggage fees. If you will be travelling with your pet, they suggest that you contact one of their Reservations agents in advance to ensure that you and your animal companion will be able to travel together.

CARRIER SIZE China Airlines does not accept pets in the cabin of any of their aircraft. Carrier size will depend on the size of your pet.
CARRIER WEIGHT N/A Weight will vary depending on the size of the animal and the appropriately sized carrier.
CHARGES / FEES N/A

Fees are based on one of two systems:

Piece System - Fee is based on a fixed charge per carrier.

Weight System - Fee is based on a charge for the total weight of the pet and the carrier.

The system used for determining what fees will apply depends on the point of departure and the destination.

Restrictions

  • Pet travel is not available on B738 and ERJ aircraft as there is no temperature control in the baggage hold of these planes.
  • Travelers are reminded that every country has different rules and regulations governing the acceptance and transportation of animals. It is strongly recommended that you contact the consulate, embassy, or government authority for any country (or countries) you will be visiting to ensure that you have met all entrance requirements.
  • Passengers must check in at least 2 hours before departure in order to give the airport staff sufficient time to make proper arrangements.

If you are unable to travel with your pet

As part of the SkyTeam alliance, China Airlines features SkyTeam's Variation® Live program, which was designed specifically to meet the needs of animals travelling unaccompanied. Please contact a customer service agent to discuss you options.

Codeshare flights

Pets may not be accepted on flights operated by codeshare partners. It is strongly recommended that you contact any codeshare partners or other airlines directly to familiarize yourself with their individual policies regarding pet travel.
