In May of 2013, two of Latin America's leading airlines, Avianca and TACA, merged to become a unified corporate entity. Today, the new and improved Avianca serves some 85 cities in 25 countries across South America, North America, Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America. Avianca will accept pets either in the cabin of the aircraft or in the cargo hold, depending on available space, the route travelled, and the size of the pet.

  • Travelers are reminded that every country has different rules and regulations governing the acceptance and transportation of animals. It is strongly recommended that you contact the consulate, embassy, or government authority for any country (or countries) you will be visiting to ensure that you have met all entrance requirements.
  • Space for pet travel is limited. Please call before you travel to confirm a space for your pet.
  • Small birds in appropriate carriers are permitted on flights within Colombia only.
  • Avianca will not transport any brachycephalic (or �snub-nosed�) breeds of dogs or cats as checked baggage.
  • When travelling within Colombia you will require a vaccination card or valid proof of vaccination.
  • On flights within Colombia aggressive breeds of dogs (Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Mastiffs, Pit Bulls, etc.) with a height of 35 cm (14 in) or more must travel in the hold in an approved metal container.

Pets may not be accepted on flights operated by codeshare partners. It is strongly recommended that you contact any codeshare partners, or other airlines you may be travelling with, to familiarize yourself with their individual policies regarding pet travel.
