Finding a hotel in Washington, D.C. that not only allows pets but also appreciates them means understanding the difference between 'pet-tolerant' and 'pet-friendly'. D.C. is also known for hotels with smaller rooms and that means you should understand exactly what makes the room good for your pet. Some hotels in D.C. will charge a one-time fee for you to bring your pet along. You should also be aware that some hotels in the city will allow smaller dogs but not larger dogs. You'll also want to be clear as to exactly how the hotel defines 'larger' dogs.

Of course, walking around the city has it's own issues, since the traffic is extremely heavy and you must pay special attention to the cars around you at all times. Unless your pet is used to these kinds of environments, it's imperative that you keep a sharp eye out for sudden traffic changes. By preparing ahead of time and staying in the right location, both you and your pet will enjoy one of the best travel destinations in the country.
